Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to your use of Grounds. It supplements the Terms of Service; capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms.

1. Prohibited content

You may not use the Service to upload, generate, or transmit:

  • Material you do not have the right to share.
  • Sexually explicit content involving minors, or content that sexualizes minors.
  • Content intended to incite violence, harass an individual, or discriminate on the basis of a protected characteristic.
  • Malware, ransomware, phishing kits, or instructions for executing attacks against computer systems.
  • Material that infringes intellectual property rights of others.
  • Personal data of third parties beyond what is necessary for the legitimate review of the document you uploaded, and beyond what your privacy notices to those third parties permit.

2. Prohibited activities

You may not:

  • Use the Service to provide legal advice to anyone unless you are a licensed attorney and the recipient is your client. The Grounds for Business and Grounds Personal products are tools to support self-help review by non-lawyers, not a substitute for legal representation.
  • Use AI-generated drafts or analyses in any legal proceeding without independent verification by a qualified attorney.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, weights, or training data from the Service or the underlying foundation models.
  • Use automated means (scraping, crawlers) to extract content from the Service in a way that places undue load on infrastructure or violates rate limits.
  • Resell or sublicense the Service without our prior written consent.
  • Use the Service to develop a directly competing AI legal assistant.
  • Use the Service to send unsolicited bulk email or otherwise violate the CAN-SPAM Act.
  • Attempt to circumvent access controls or rate limits.

3. Unauthorized practice of law

The unauthorized practice of law is illegal in most jurisdictions. Non-lawyers may use Grounds tools to review their own documents and to communicate with their own counterparties. Non-lawyers may not use Grounds to provide legal advice to others, to represent others in negotiations, or to draft documents for third parties for a fee. If you are unsure whether your intended use is permitted, consult a licensed attorney.

4. Confidentiality of counterparties and clients

When you upload a contract or matter involving a counterparty, client, or other third party, you represent that you have a legitimate purpose for processing that information and have provided any notices required by applicable law. Grounds is a processor for such third-party personal information.

5. AI output disclaimer

You agree that AI-generated outputs are recommendations, not legal advice, and that you will use independent judgment before relying on any specific output. Citations, statutory references, and case descriptions returned by the Service must be independently verified.

6. Reporting

Report suspected AUP violations or security concerns to abuse@grounds.ai. We respond to valid reports within 5 business days.

7. Enforcement

We may suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe are violating this AUP. For serious violations (e.g., CSAM, attempted intrusion), we will suspend immediately and may notify law enforcement.
